Mondays

Mondays are probably the least-liked day of the work week. For some, every day is a Monday if you do not look forward to the opportunities and challenges that await. Many times it’s because we are not physically rested or spiritually prepared for what lies ahead, we might not be in love with our jobs, we fall for the hype presented on social media about hating Mondays, or we cringe at the idea of trying to meet unrealistic expectations for another work week.

Some days, if not most, we face unexpected stresses and burdens that trouble us from the moment the alarm goes off until we close our eyes at night. You might be struggling with issues related to family, friends, work or personal concerns. At least twice the Bible tells us how to handle this.

Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken. ~Psalm 55:22

Cast all your anxiety on Him because he cares for you. ~1 Peter 5:7

Our Human Nature

The tension comes when our human nature refuses to release that which we have no power to change, even when God has openly offered to take our burdens and free us. I know I’m not the only one like this. Many of you reading this post feel the intermittent or constant weightiness of physical, emotional and financial strain for which you have no immediate answers or relief. This negatively affects your emotional, physical and spiritual health … not to mention relationships at work, church, school and home.

The prophet Jeremiah understood your trouble. He too suffered much. He is known in the Bible as the weeping prophet, and he even wrote a book called Lamentations (meaning, to express sorrow or grief). However, in those times of affliction, wandering, and bitterness, he recalled a powerful promise from God.

I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him.” ~Lamentations 3:19-24

He is Still Enough

Yes, the new day may bring a new set of trials and tribulations, but God is also there with His unfailing love, faithfulness, and compassion. If the Lord is your portion (all you have and all you need), then even if all is stripped away, HE WILL STILL BE ENOUGH. Therefore, wait on Him to deliver you out of your bondage and distress – for He cares for you immeasurably!

Every day may not be a Saturday, but it doesn’t have to be a Monday either. Every day can have a fresh start with a positive outlook. Begin and end each day with the Lord. Talk to Him all through your waking hours. Put aside the social media, electronic devices, and the barrage of streaming news headlines and seek first the kingdom of God instead. Yes, His compassions never fail and great is His faithfulness (even on Mondays).
